Got together with a group of friends on Saturday and watched a bunch of Who--well, three serials. Random thoughts abound:
*We watched the Peter Cushing Doctor Who, which I'd never seen. I was...strangely uninspired by it, upon reflection. It wasn't horrible. It just wasn't Who. It was funny in bits, and made more bearable by watching it in a group. Anyway, I'm happy with it being an AU 'what-if'.
*The Deadly Assassin: Always a favorite. Why the heck isn't this out on DVD yet?!? I love this serial for Gallifrey, and all of the insight we get into Time Lord culture. The Doctor absolutely fascinates me, and so any glimpses we can get into his past make me happy. That being said, I wouldn't want to see too much revealed. The Doctor can never truly lose his mystery, in my opinion.
*The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances: You know, I really liked these. And I'm not a Moffat fangirl. I do think he does some things /extremely/ well. The creep factor was up in this, and I'd forgotten that Rose could actually be fun rather than annoying. I think Jack is a good buffer for all the Doctor/Rose angst, come to think of it. And how can I forget: "Everyone lives! Just this once, everyone lives!"
Ah, Doctor. He does leave a certain amount of destruction in his wake. 'The road to hell..' and all that.
All in all, a fun evening. Hopefully, we can plan another.
